Highly elastic, tear resistant, and resilient
EPU: Elastomeric Polyurethane
FEATURES
EPU is our elastomeric material family. Its combination of tear strength, energy return, and elongation makes it perfect for cushioning, impact absorption, vibration isolation, gaskets, and seals. Our EPU family (EPU 40 and EPU 41) is especially well-suited for producing elastomeric lattices to create foam-like product experiences.
EPU 40 is our original elastomer material. EPU 40 has higher elongation and tear strength, but lower resilience, compared to the next generation EPU 41.
EPU 41 is our production-grade elastomeric material. EPU 41 has higher resilience (energy return) and better retention of elastomeric properties than EPU 40 at temperatures > -10°C. Offered only in 5-L bulk packaging, EPU 41 will require MMD (meter, mix, and dispense) equipment for proper dispensing of the material in bulk quantities.
Mechanical Properties:
Our EPU family is comparable to commercial TPUs with a Shore A hardness of 70.
APPLICATIONS
- Elastomeric Lattices for foam like products
- vibration insolation
- gaskets/seals
- impact absorption

Versatile, tough, and rigid
RPU: Rigid Polyurethane
Features:
Rigid Polyurethane is our most versatile rigid material family. It is used across a wide range of industries, including consumer products, automotive, and industrial. RPU 130 is strong, tough, and heat resistant.
RPU is comparable to an unfilled thermoplastic like nylon or polypropylene.
Mechanical Properties:
RPU 130 is strong, tough, and heat resistant with an impact resistance of 76 J/m and heat deflection temperature of 119 °C. RPU 70 is stiff and strong, with ultimate tensile strength of 45 MPa. RPU 130 is composed of 30% Susterra® propanediol, a bio-based material that combines performance and sustainability. RPU 130’s unique combination of performance attributes makes it comparable to an unfilled thermoplastic like nylon and polypropylene.

Biocompatible, sterilizable, and durable
MPU: Multi-purpose Polyurethane
Features:
- MPU 100 is Carbon’s first medical-grade material, designed to help medical product manufacturers accelerate product development cycles and improve the quality of their products. Similar to Carbon’s rigid polyurethane materials, MPU 100 is a two component material that produces isotropic parts with fine features. The material offers a unique combination of biocompatibility, sterilizability, and durability, in addition to engineering-grade mechanical properties, abrasion resistance, and chemical resistance. Carbon has performed biocompatibility testing with documentation to support the material passing USP-VI and ISO 10993-5 and -10. Additionally, MPU 100 is sterilizable using ethylene oxide, e-beam, and gamma, and maintains its biocompatibility (i.e. passes cytotoxicity testing) post-sterilization.A master file is available at the FDA.
Mechanical Properties:
MPU Parts
Applications:
- MPU 100 is suitable for medical products and devices, consumer health care products, and drug contact applications including*:
– Components of medical equipment systems (e.g. covers, guards, adapters)
– Skin contact applications (e.g. prosthetics)
– Single-use surgical instruments (e.g. handles, guides, trials)
– Drug contact devices (e.g. inhalers, auto-injectors, pill bottles, single use bioprocessing devices)*Note: It is the sole responsibility of the Subscriber or manufacturer of the end-use-product to determine that the final product, including any products manufactured using Carbon Products, meets relevant testing and biocompatibility requirements and is otherwise safe and effective for its intended use.
